SHOW HIM THE DOOR: FED Chair Powell Unemployed!

FED Officials Under Scrutiny

This past Sunday, in Sochi (Russia), one of the youngest Formula 1 drives, Lando Norris, whose father became a hundred-millionaire in the UK, through building pension advisories, took pole position for the first time.

Taking pole position is important, since on the starting grid, you have a few meters of first-mover advantage, as well as the prime entry point to the first corner, if your reaction time and jump, from zero to full throttle, is done right.

In order to win pole position, you have to have the fastest time in qualifying and that is extremely difficult to do, when you’re driving a McLaren, which isn’t the best car or the fastest one. In the past few seasons, Mercedes have dominated completely and their car is considered to be the best ever.

Lando Norris still managed to take pole, because Mercedes’ drivers made mistakes in qualifying and he was leading the race on lap 47 of 53.

Lando, who will be 22 years old in November, was driving flawlessly, but Planet Earth threw a curveball at him. Rain clouds gathered over part of the track (corners 5, 6 and 7), so his team principal updated him on the situation and asked him to come into the pits and changed from slick tires {which are optimal for dry conditions) into wet tires {optimal for rain and slippery conditions}.

Because his team told him rain drops were to be expected in corners five through seven and because it was lap 49 by this time, Lando calculated that if this is the worst of it, he can remain on slicks and win the race.

Lando Norris decided not to pit. He has never won a race, a dream that he must have had from the age of 5 or 6, when his father buckled him into a go-kart for the first time and implanted in his mind the idea of being a world champion and sowed in his heart the adrenaline rush that comes with being first.

He was greedy (leading the race with only 4 laps to go), fearful that pitting would cost him too much time, while others will choose to stay out and pass him {if rain doesn’t end up pouring} and these two emotions drove him to remain out, even when Lewis Hamilton, then trailing him in 2nd place, decided to enter the pits, basically eliminating much of the risk for Norris to enter himself.

    Emotion drove him, not reason.

10 seconds afterwards, rain began to pour so hard that the slowest cars in the race passed the race leader and he not only had to enter the pits to change the following lap, but had finished 7th!

If Norris would have pitted, he would have finished either first, second or, if something really horrible happened, third. Regardless, he would have been on the podium. Staying out had unlimited risk, since other drivers, who made similar calls, crashed into the wall.

Risk and reward, risk and reward; it all boils down to that.

Why are markets falling right now?

Investors see elevated levels of risk:

    1. Calls for fire Chairman Powell, A.K.A. Mr. Brrrrrrrrrr, who runs the printing presses.
    2. Corporate tax hikes {which make stocks less valuable)
    3. Bond yields rising
    4. More inflation to come

Uncertainty is back and if you’re not buying your highest-conviction picks, when they’re falling, you’re deciding to race on slick tires, when the rain clouds are gathering. Don’t make the wrong move; be greedy, when others are fearful.
