What Does it Mean to Survive and Thrive?

When you play an association game and think about the biggest animal migration, images of the wildebeest crossing the plains of the Serengeti come up or the humpbacks going all the way from Alaska to the tropics, but while those are amazing, it is actually a type of migration called the Diel Vertical Migration that takes the prize.

It involves trillions of living organisms that come up from the abyss at a depth of 100 meters and up (some journeys are from 500+ meters) to the shallows and back down again.

As the sun shines on the ocean during the day, fish don’t have many good hiding spots, so many of them have biologically adapted themselves to live in parts of the ocean that are completely dark.

The sun doesn’t reach them, but neither do many predators.

These squids, fish (small and large), and other forms of life are in survival mode during the day. Then, under the cover of darkness, they make the vertical swim to the surface where food is abundant!

Some of these fish, like the bristlemouth, cover more than 60% of the deep-sea biomass and weigh more than the entire human race combined.

By the time the sun rises over the waves, they sense that it’s time to depart and dive back.

Their existence is a delicate dance, a balancing act between getting food and not becoming something else’s meal.

Humans had to go through stages of evolution where they might have been prey for some predatory animals, but for the most part, humans must be careful not to be hunted down by other humans.

In the modern era, where conflict is less and less a part of our daily lives, we can focus more on personal growth and writing our own ticket.

On Tuesday, I shared four of those principles that I aim to continue perfecting so long as my heart beats. Today, I want to publish four additional ones.

• The belief in the possibility of achievement

Nothing brings more joy to the individual than the idea that they are not barred or constrained from accomplishing their goals.

• The belief of cause and effect

For me, this is monumental.

One that cannot bring themself to have faith in the integrity of nature cannot long sustain a life of wealth and prosperity.

When one can’t fully embrace the infinity of possibilities that can come into their life, they invite limitation into their experience.

• The eagerness to share your riches

This sounds weird and counterintuitive to many… how can one get richer if they give away portions of their wealth?

The answer is so simple: abundance. One that shares their spoils receives abundantly in return.

• Have a great passion

I have yet to meet a truly happy and prosperous person who has not found their calling, which doesn’t necessarily have to be their profession.

If you have a love and desire to do a certain hobby, you will never be bored, sad, or depressed for long.

My wish for you is that you learn to enjoy everything because this is it… life is to be lived now.
